Live music is NOT included, but upon request it is possible to add the accompaniment of a traditional pizzica musician who will play live throughout the experience. This service is available at an additional cost of €160
The pizzica lesson can take place at a location of your choice, where Mariangela will meet you on the agreed day and time.
At the beginning of the pizzica lesson, Mariangela will introduce you to the history of the dance and the tradition of Puglian popular music. She will also explain what “tarantismo” is – a social phenomenon linked to popular music, which characterised Southern Italy until the middle of the last century.
Next, Mariangela will teach you how to dance the pizzica-pizzica, typical of the Upper Salento region. During the workshop, you will learn the basic steps of the traditional dance and how to move to the rhythm of traditional instruments. You will practise the dance in all its forms and see its evolution to the present day. Mariangela’s aim will be to get you in touch with the most “primordial” part of you and let you express yourself in a free and natural way.
The experience will end with a convivial moment during which you will be able to ask Mariangela all the questions you want to learn more about her history and clear up any doubts about this magnificent musical and artistic tradition.

Dancing pizzica steps to the rhythm of drums and accordion (played live!) surrounded by nature, among the trulli and lamia in the countryside around Villa Castelli, then finishing off by drinking local wine and eating taralli… a rare pizzica dance class, what else? Thanks to Alessia and Matteo for letting us discover the origins of this dance and sharing with us the ancestral traditions of their land. Thanks to Loliv for their care and kindness.
